    ARTICLE

    The Power of Interaction

For this article, I want to discuss two distinct types of websites, Brochure sites and Interactive sites. Brochure websites are informational in nature and provide visitors ways to learn about a company's products and services and then contact the business by phone or email. Interactive websites can perform all the functions of brochure websites but also enable visitors to interact with your company online. This interaction can be in the form of subscribing to a newsletter, requesting more information via an online form, participating in an online poll, or a number of other ways.

While brochure websites can be an effective marketing tool they are not performing to their full potential. If you have a Brochure website, you're not alone, approximately 75% of sites on the web today are brochure sites. The remainder of this article is going to focus on the benefits of Interactive websites and ways you can make your site interactive.

    Why Go Interactive?
The number one reason to employ an interactive website is to collect user information. By adding interactive forms to your website you can build an opt-in list of potential customers. Once you have a targeted list of prospects you can actively communicate to them via email, phone, and mail. An interactive website is a great way generate leads for your website. Not only is it providing visitors important information about your products and services, but it can help weed out the real leads from the "casual web surfers."

Ways to Make Your Site Interactive
There are numerous ways to make your website interactive. I have included some of the most common ways below. When thinking about making you site interactive be creative and remember the golden rule of opt-in lists - Provide your users something they value for their contact information.

    • Online Newsletter

    • Not only is an online newsletter a great way to develop a targeted list of people interested in your business, it is an effective way to position yourself as an expert in your industry. An online newsletter also helps you create original content for your website which is a huge benefit for your visitors and Search Engines alike.

    • Offer Online Discounts

    • Have user's complete a brief form on your website in exchange for special online only discounts to your products and services. This is a great way to determine which visitors to your site are ready to make a purchase. Once you build a list of people that are interested in discounts, you can send them special offers on a regular basis.

    • Message Board

    • For businesses that are receiving a good amount of traffic to their site and want to provide a way to keep that traffic coming back a message board might be a good addition. A message board not only provides you a way to collect user information and comments, but it lets users interact with each other.

These are just a few ideas of ways to make your website more interactive and useful. Adding the ability to collect user information from your site is easier and more affordable then you think. If you know basic HTML you should be able to employ some of the ideas listed above for free.

For specific ideas on making your website interactive, send us an email to consultation@idesignbusiness.com and we will review your website for you.
